As stated above, “I didn’t write the (Canadian Income Tax) Act, and I can’t explain what they were thinking.” I’m pretty sure I have an idea: make a confusing set of rules that are hard to follow and benefit from. They can offer as many tax breaks as they want but they bank on people not knowing how to use it.

You see, my current job title is “Manager, Fund Taxation” so your issue is near and dear to my heart. I’ve lost track of the number of times in the last week alone that I’ve said something along the lines of “I didn’t write the (Canadian Income Tax) Act, and I can’t explain what they were thinking.
